World Street Photo Awards
I am chuffed to bits to learn this week that I have had three images selected for finalists in the World Street Photo Awards. ‘Central Cafe’ , ‘Driver Reflection’ and ‘Reflections of Light and Colour’ being selected as Finalists with the latter being given an ‘Honorable Mention’

Reflection of Light and Colour
This was taken on my workshop in Tokyo with Laurence Bouchard. It’s a corridor leading from one shopping area to a food super market. The leading lines in the lights in the ceiling reflected on the shiny floor and the colour LED light wall giving bold colour again reflecting on the floor made for an interesting composition. With just a short wait for someone to pass through the scene to add the final element of this shot.
This is why I selected it for the competition.

Central Cafe
This was taken in London shortly after I started to my street photography journey. I’d read and watched (on YouTube) various photographers who’d suggested venturing out with a fixed lens. I had my small Panasonic Lumix GF1 - an old camera by digital standards. I’d found this scene from watching photographer ‘Mr Whisper’ channel, and searched Maps to see where this was. I was attracted to the neon lights and thought that a straight on short would work. What I wasn’t expecting was the two girls, jolly after a few drinks no doubt walking past.
Perfect capture with the bold colours was why I selected this image for the competition

Driver Reflection
This was taken on another one of my solo photowalks in London. I’d ventured to Piccadilly Circus for a few shots, and moved around to the theatre. Traffic was awful with drivers waiting to get through further up the road. Armed with my OM5 and again a fixed lens of 25mm or 50mm full frame equivalent I noticed the reflection on the car window and the burned driver. With the camera always on, ready an any quick capture, I snapped this. On site, I wasn’t happy. Through I needed a wider angle, so switch to my 17mm (34mm full frame) and captured more. But this image really showed a character to the driver.
A driver in reflection - and that’s why I was happy to select this image for the competition.
