Story Behind the Image - Structure and Geometry, Baku
A monumental gateway in Baku caught my eye day after day, quietly commanding attention on my walk to work.
When I finally had the chance to photograph it, the light wasn’t what I’d imagined — but it was my only opportunity.
Careful framing and strong verticals became essential, with a passing figure providing vital human scale.
This image is about timing, proportion, and finding impact in a single, unrepeatable moment.
Story Behind the Image - Central Cafe.
I took this photograph outside Central Café in Soho, Central London, on one of those evenings when the city feels like it’s humming just a little louder than usual. I’d been trying to put some newly learned street photography ideas into practice: slow down, choose a simple frame, and then wait for the world to do something interesting inside it.
Workshopping - 1-2-1 With Mr Whisper
It was a special treat just over a week ago (from writing this) — I’d booked a 1-2-1 session with street photographer Bal Bhatla, aka Mr Whisper. I’d been admiring his work for a while now, including his work in his book - London After Dark. I was curious about how he achieved some of his images, how he works, and what he looks for when he’s on the streets with a camera in hand.
World Street Photo Awards
I am chuffed to bits to learn this week that I have had three images selected for finalists in the World Street Photo Awards. ‘Central Cafe’ , ‘Driver Reflection’ and ‘Reflections of Light and Colour’ being selected as Finalists with the latter being given an ‘Honorable Mention’
